Description
“Instant Improvisations” A three-day intensive for performing artists Improvisation is a space to radically engage in collaborative performance, choreographic thinking, and design. This workshop is for artists who want to push the edges and explore the future of art making that is physical-first. We will focus on presence and change as the keys to working as an ensemble and composing movement with bravery. This workshop spends plenty of time moving and watching improvisation so that particular gain a spirit of play while learning in motion and support for your individual growth within the collective. About the instructor: Adam Kerbel performs, choreographs, and teaches nationally and sometimes internationally. He draws on his experience with clown, improvisation, education and puppetry. In addition to co-founding the groundbreaking Almanac Dance Circus Theatre in 2013, he has coached and worked with ensembles in diverse mediums such as theatre, dance, opera, acrobatics, and sculptural performance. Please arrive ten minutes early. Bio Adam Kerbel is a choreographer and educator interested in the politics of bodies. He recently relocated from Los Angeles, CA to Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, to continue developing new work and build communities of improvisers. He is co-founder of Almanac Dance Circus Theatre in Philadelphia, was a puppeteer and storyteller at Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, a resident artist at Bearnstow, and earned a coveted New York Live Arts–Fresh Tracks residency with Almanac. Most recently, he taught and choreographed improvisation at Breaking Walls Festival in Cairo, Egypt and premiered a new work, Motion Sickness at Miniball Festival in Philly. In June 2023, Adam is slated to perform at Jacob’s Pillow with Almanac.More Information
