Irish American Month starts March 1 is an annual observance originating in the United States, where it is known as Irish-American Heritage Month. It has received official recognition from governments in the United States and Canada. It was first celebrated by proclamation of the President and Congress in the United States to honor the achievements and contributions of Irish Americans. Missouri Governors have recognized March as Irish American Heritage Month which coincides with Saint Patrick's Day. Irish American Heritage Month is usually proclaimed by nations to celebrate centuries of contributions by the Irish Americans. In tribute to all Irish Americans, the US Congress, by Public Law 101-418, designated March 1991 as "Irish-American Heritage Month." Congress again proclaimed March as Irish-American Heritage Month for 1995 and 1996. The melding of two rich cultures, Irish and American, has birthed a legacy that millions celebrate every year. National Irish-American Heritage Month is not only a nod to the past but also an embracing of present and future contributions of Irish-Americans to the United States. We are asking the people to join us in the celebration of our identity as Irish Americans, our history, and our culture. Irish-American Heritage Month is a month-long celebration dedicated to honoring the contributions and achievements of Irish immigrants and their descendants in the United States. From arts to politics, business to sports, the Irish-American community has played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s history. In Honor of the contributions the Irish men and women that settled in this great city. The City of St. Louis will raise the Irish Flag at City Hall for all those of Irish decent. The St. Louis Irish community is privileged to be known as the home to enthusiastic and lively number of Irish-American who reside in every county, city, and town in Missouri, and this population is indeed a revered Missouri treasure, as these good people have long cherished their heritage and shared their rich traditions and custom with the larger community, since the first St Patrick’s Day in St. Louis in 1820, on all days of the year, but especially in the month of March. Irish-Americans have made an indelible impression upon every human endeavor-in art, music, literature, film, dance, theatre, sports, education, law, finance, and politics- and shall continue to embellish Missouri’s shining future, reflecting the noble past of this mighty race, with all the strength, resilience, humor, and hospitality of the Irish-Americans and to remember and pay tribute to the men and women who have descended from the beautiful Emerald Isle
