Through hands-on activities and experiments, learn about important Black Missourians who worked in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Program Schedule

TIMED EVENTS

Storytelling in the Museum: Black Scientists | 10:30–11:15am | MacDermott Grand Hall

To celebrate Black History Month, we’re learning about Black scientists who changed the world! American Sign Language interpretation will be provided by DEAF Inc.

Workshop: Black Missourians in STEM | 11:30–12:15am | MacDermott Grand Hall

Practice historical research skills as you learn about Black Missourians in STEM. We will investigate what we learn from different primary sources about the lives and achievements of Black scientists, doctors, architects, and inventors. American Sign Language interpretation will be provided by DEAF Inc.

DROP-IN EVENTS

Making History: Craft Room | 10am–1pm | Loggia

Exercise your STEM skills by constructing a model car in honor of entrepreneur and engineer Walter Majors, or a Q-tip foot X-ray in honor of Dr. Izetta Reddick.

Touch Table + Inquiry Station: Homer G. Phillips Hospital | 10am–1pm | MacDermott Grand Hall

Explore the top teaching hospital for Black doctors and nurses: Homer G. Phillips Hospital! Investigate medical procedures, touch real medical tools, and learn more about doctors and nurses who used science and technology to save lives.

Open Play: Dr. Du-Good’s Chemical Laboratory | 10am–1pm | Schnucks Classroom

in 1947, Dr. Lincoln Diuguid opened the Du-Good Chemical Laboratory in St. Louis, creating a space where Black scientists could explore cures for cancer and research how new medical treatments. Through hands-on experiments and activities, learn all about the advancements and inventions from the Du-Good Chemical Laboratory!
