Description

In conjunction with the opening of Aymara Weavings: The Indigenous Andes, Elena Phipps, lecturer in the Department of World Arts and Culture/Dance at UCLA, will look at early achievements in the art of textiles and examine some of the ways in which they have been made and used—from the early cultures of Chavín, Paracas, and Wari to the later Inka and Aymara peoples, including their cultural transitions after the Spanish encounter.
