Description
Growing up in St. Louis, Amy Feder wanted to be either a lounge singer or a rabbi. Twenty years into the rabbinate, she’s finally getting to do both. As the co-senior rabbi of Congregation Temple Israel (to which Amy is donating her proceeds,) Amy has worked to bring music into the hearts and lives of her community. She’s known for including music in her teaching, preaching, and every other opportunity she has to perform. A St. Louis native, Amy studied music and Judaic Studies at the University of Michigan, where she also taught voice lessons, music theory and composition. Since becoming a rabbi at Temple Israel, she’s had the joy of performing alongside some of her favorite people: her husband, Rabbi Michael Alper, her dear friends Rob and Julie Aronson, and many more. Her congregation knows that any service they attend will be musical, engaging, and will make you want to sing along. This concert explores some of Broadway’s best composers and songwriters, who just so happened to be Jewish. These are some of Amy’s favorites, many of whom have found their way onto the bima (or will now!) Composers include Gershwin, Berlin, Sondheim, Bernstein, Rodgers and Hammerstein and more.
