May 7 - June 26 10am-5pm Monday-Saturday, 12-4pm Sunday Third Degree Glass is thrilled to display new work by our very own studio manager Cole Harmon, a native of St. Louis, for his inaugural exhibition at our studios. Cole has been working with glass since 2019 when he learned as a student at Tulane University in New Orleans. He loves all types of glass, traditional and otherwise, but is especially attracted to solid sculpture and hot casting, as well as mixed media work incorporating steel and stone components. His upcoming exhibition is an exercise in compartmentalization. One section, Happy-Go-Lucky, is comprised of blown pieces and seeks solely to put a smile on the viewer’s face. “Glassblowing is my escape from the real world, and the studio is where I go to get my mind off things. Rather than presenting commentary on the multitude of issues facing our world, I wanted to create a body of work that gives the viewer the same feeling of comfort that the process of making it gives to me.” The second section, Devil-May-Care, features a selection of his heavier (literally and figuratively) cast glass and steel sculptures. Compared to section one, these pieces are much more narrative in nature, with themes of environmentalism and self-awareness. “We can and should take a break from the stress of our modern world when we’re feeling overwhelmed; but reality is inescapable, and we must recognize and sit with problems before we can find solutions.” Pieces will be available to purchase.
