Description
After nearly forty years as founder, leader, and front-man of the legendary Wolfe Tones, Derek Warfield continues to carry Ireland’s musical heritage forward with The Young Wolfe Tones—a dynamic ensemble dedicated to preserving and re-energizing the Irish ballad tradition for a new generation. Formed in 2008, the group unites Warfield’s decades of experience with the exceptional talents of Damaris Woods (banjo), Eddie Kane (vocals, guitar), Andreas Durkin (keyboards, vocals), Paddy McGrandles (whistles, flute, vocals), and Brent Hopper (vocals, guitar). Together, they bring Ireland’s songs of heritage, emigration, and rebellion to life with spirited harmonies, skilled instrumentation, and storytelling deeply rooted in history. From festival stages to intimate theatres, Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones captivate audiences with performances that are both entertaining and educational. Their concerts blend historical narrative, humor, and musicianship—celebrating Ireland’s struggles and triumphs through timeless ballads and original compositions. The band’s recordings and international tours have won them acclaim as one of the most vibrant groups performing Irish folk and rebel music today. As the official biography notes, Warfield’s “fifty years of experience, coupled with the talent and energy of The Young Wolfe Tones, brings the old tradition of Irish balladry into a new age. The story of Ireland is transmitted in their music and song and illuminated by the outstanding musicianship of a new generation.”More Information
