Description
Join the Center for Authentic Listening & Learning (C.A.L.L.) for our annual Juneteenth Fundraiser—a powerful brunch and panel experience rooted in Black history, healing, and land reclamation. This year's theme, From the Hospital to the Land: Reclaiming Wellness on Missouri's First Black Resort, anchors a conversation that begins in the corridors of Black medical history and stretches out to 244 acres of Missouri earth. We'll explore what it means to reclaim land, health, and legacy—together. In 1934, Dr. P.C. Turner and J.M. Sojourner—two Black men from Kansas City—purchased land that would become Lake Placid, a recreational resort and sanctuary for African Americans across Missouri. In 2021, that same land came home. RepProject40 LLC acquired all 244 acres of Missouri's First Black Resort. This event helps tell that story—and fund its next chapter. YOUR EXPERIENCE INCLUDES: - Buffet brunch - Live jazz performances - Unveiling of Phase 1 of the 244-acre Lake Placid land development plan (sponsored by RepProject40 LLC) - Mix & mingle with Missouri historians and storytellers - A visual history of the Lake Placid project — how it started, where it's going - Special guests to be announced In-person panel discussion: From the Hospital to the Land— featuring scholars, historians, and community voices.More Information
