Summary

Designation of the Oscar Waring House as a City Landmark is the purpose of the legislation. Designating the home of Oscar Waring will celebrate the contribution of the first African-American Principal of Sumner High School. The Board Bill will ensure the historic exterior appearance of the house is maintained and that a community asset is protected from inappropriate alterations or demolition. The Board Bill includes the following sections: 1. Whereas clauses that denote the significance of Oscar Waring’s contribution to the education of African-Americans in St. Louis 2. Whereas clause stating that the nomination is supported by the Board of Public Service, Planning Commission and Preservation Board 3.
