Sanitation Guidelines for a Temporary Tattoo Event

Tattoo Station

• Artists shall provide proof of current state license.
• Artist shall only operate inside the approved temporary tattoo station.
• Tattoo station shall be enclosed to prevent contamination from dust and air debris; pests.
• Only the approved licensed tattoo operators and customers are allowed inside the tattoo station. Waiting customers shall wait outside until service is available.

Supplies

• Disposable needles and sharps must be used.
• Smooth, non-absorbent and easily cleanable chairs/tables shall be used during tattoo service on the customer.
• Each operator is required to have their own supplies at their station.
• If styptics are present, must be in liquid or powder form.
• The tattoo station shall be equipped with:
  • Electrical power
  • Covered waste container
  • Covered container for sharps (highly encourage use of a Bio sharps container)
  • Notice stating that it is illegal to tattoo any person under the age of 18 without a parent’s or legal guardian’s signed consent
  • Unexpired ink in sealed containers
  • Disposable pigment containers
  • Disposable latex or vinyl gloves
  • Plastic sleeves for the tattoo artist while operating
  • Germicidal soap
  • 1 gallon of isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher)
  • 1 gallon of distilled water
  • Single-use, disposable razor(s)
  • Gauze and bandages in closed dustproof containers
  • Petroleum jelly or antibacterial ointment
  • Cotton swabs, gauze, or wooden tongue depressors (to apply petroleum jelly)
  • Closed dustproof container for clean towels and linens
  • Hamper or similar container for soiled towels and linens
