Mayor Spencer Orders Youth Curfew in The Grove June 27-29, Bars to Voluntarily Close Doors Early

Mayor Cara Spencer today signed Executive Order 97, imposing an overnight curfew for juveniles in the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood during next weekend’s Pride celebrations.

Specifically, this curfew will be in place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting in the evening of Saturday, June 27, and ending the morning of Monday, June 29.

In addition, the City is grateful for its collaboration with bars in The Grove, which have agreed to close their doors at midnight on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28, displaying clear dedication to the community and public safety.

To avoid any dangerous situation involving vehicles, the Street Department and St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department will barricade Manchester Avenue between Boyle and Vandeventer.

Finally, the Department of Public Safety, with support from the SLMPD and the Office of Violence Prevention, will establish a reunification center where parents or guardians must pick up juveniles who have violated the curfew. Multiple non-profit organizations working with youths will be at the center to connect juveniles with positive resources.

The City is taking these proactive steps, in collaboration with the SLMPD and local bar owners, to enable residents and visitors to celebrate Pride safely while limiting the risk of violence and unruliness that have occurred in previous years, including last year.

“Pride is such a fun and important celebration, and we don’t want anyone who’d like to join in the festivities to stay home because they don’t feel safe,” said Mayor Spencer. “I appreciate the bar owners in The Grove and the SLMPD for helping us develop this plan, and for their commitment to an inclusive and safe celebration.”
