Announcement of Public Notice: Architectural Historic Survey

Federal agencies to conduct an architectural historic survey of city structures and residential homes damaged during the May 16, 2025, severe storms.

This public notice is intended to notify City of St. Louis residents and communities affected by the May 16, 2025, Severe Storms, Straight-line Winds, Tornadoes, and Flooding that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is working along with the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Missouri State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to conduct an architectural historic survey of city structures and residential homes that were damaged during the severe weather incident.

The survey will:

  • Identify and evaluate the historic integrity and significance of historic properties in the area based on National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) criteria.
  • Include taking photographs of the exterior front and the side facades of residential and other potentially significant historic buildings, identifying the architectural style, and collecting data to document the storm’s impact on building structures.
  • All exterior photographs of properties will be taken from the public right-of-way. No personally identifiable information will be collected.

The architectural survey will assist in the review of proposed FEMA-funded activities to help neighborhoods in the City of St. Louis recover from the disaster. The survey will help FEMA to evaluate properties or historic districts that are listed or could be potentially listed on the NRHP.

FEMA is requesting comments from all interested parties to consider and evaluate the impacts of the FEMA-funded architectural historic survey on the community.
