Captain Garon Mosby is a Fire Captain with the St. Louis Fire Department and a member of the Fire Chief’s Administrative Staff, where he provides executive leadership in strategic communications, public engagement, emergency management support, and organizational initiatives. He also serves as the department’s Public Information Officer, advising the Fire Chief and executive staff on crisis communications, media relations, public messaging, and community engagement.

With more than three decades of service in public safety, Captain Mosby’s fire service career is defined by both operational experience and executive leadership. He spent 14 years assigned to frontline suppression companies, serving on engine and truck companies while responding to thousands of emergencies throughout the City of St. Louis. Those years on the line shaped his leadership philosophy and continue to inform every aspect of his work. For more than 12 years, he has served on the Fire Chief’s Administrative Staff, helping guide initiatives that strengthen public trust, enhance organizational communication, and advance the department’s mission beyond emergency response.

Captain Mosby has directed public information efforts during major emergencies, severe weather events, complex fire investigations, and other high profile incidents, serving as a trusted voice for both the department and the community. He has played a key role in modernizing the department’s communications strategy, expanding its digital presence, strengthening community engagement, supporting recruitment initiatives, and advancing public education programs focused on community risk reduction. His work reflects the belief that communication is not simply about delivering information. It is a critical component of leadership, public safety, and community resilience.

Recognized for his expertise in public safety communications, Captain Mosby has represented the St. Louis Fire Department before local, regional, and national audiences. He has served as a public safety analyst for the A&E television series Live Rescue and as Master of Ceremonies for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Candlelight Service, honoring America’s fallen firefighters. He is a frequent speaker on leadership, strategic communications, organizational culture, emergency management, and the evolving role of public trust in the fire service.

Captain Mosby believes the fire service is built on relationships.
