I have had several amicable conversations with various protest group leaders in an effort to ensure the safety of protesters, the public and police. After June 1, most protests in the City of St. Louis have been non-violent and have proceeded with the help of the police and without injury or little property damage. However, at or about 3:15 a.m. this morning several protest members which are a part of the protest group currently encamped at City Hall struck a City of St. Louis employee twice in the face with an assault rifle and another employee was assaulted by being punched in the back of the head. These people are not peaceful or non-violent and will be arrested and held accountable for their criminal behavior. It is important that citizens and politicians alike denounce criminal behaviors disguised as lawful protests.
