SLATE To Provide New Venture Workshop for Laid Off Workers

The St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE) Missouri Career Center (MCC) will start providing the FastTrac™ New Venture Workshop for laid off workers beginning November, at SLATE MCC Downtown, 1520 Market Street, 3rd Floor Conference Room, St. Louis, MO 63103. The workshop will be conducted over the course of five days, November 12, 13, 14, 19 and 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

The workshop is designed to assist individuals interested in starting their own businesses and becoming resourceful entrepreneurs and will help them with organizing and implementing strategies for successful business operations. During five practical days of hands-on training, participants will learn how to identify business opportunities; brainstorm ideas and concepts; develop a business concept that has potential for feasible application; develop a business plan that will attract financial assistance; submit forms and organize their business; prepare a budget, pricing and profitability margins, calculate taxes, and more. 

Workshops are free of charge for laid off workers, including all materials: textbook, software, lunch and individual follow-up with instructors and counselors. Workshops are limited to 30 participants and classes fill quickly. Individuals planning to attend need to speak with SLATE staff members and be enrolled in the WIA program. Enrollment must be done prior to the event at SLATE MCC Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

FastTrac™ workshop is facilitated by the Missouri Small Business and Technology Development Centers, co-sponsored by the Missouri Division of Workforce Development (DWD)/SLATE MCC and SLATE.
