These events continue SLATE’s long-standing mission of helping local businesses fill seasonal positions while connecting St. Louis residents to employment opportunities. Attendees will also receive information about training and apprenticeship programs that can help them gain new skills or advance their careers. SLATE offers financial assistance for many programs; more details can be found here.
Apprenticeships and Training Opportunities
SLATE offers apprenticeships that let participants earn while learning. These programs place more than 100 individuals annually into fields such as healthcare, construction, IT and transportation:
- Healthcare: CNAs can complete training in 6–12 weeks for jobs paying $35,000–$40,000 annually, with pathways to medical assistant, LPN and RN roles earning $45,000–$100,000.
- Transportation and Logistics: CDL programs through MIM Trucking, MTC Trucking and St. Louis Community College train 20–25 participants yearly to meet urgent driver demand.
- Information Technology: Training with providers like Savvy Coders and Claim Academy prepares participants for careers in software development, cybersecurity and AI.
- Construction and Trades: SLATE’s YouthBuild pre-apprenticeship and programs like the Missouri Works Initiative and MOKAN provide hands-on skills and union pathways in carpentry, electrical, masonry and more.
This year marks SLATE’s 50th anniversary of serving the St. Louis community. Over the past five decades, SLATE has helped residents build careers and supported a steady regional workforce, even through times of crisis. Following the devastating tornado in May, many residents lost homes and employment. SLATE is providing clear pathways for those affected to rebuild their careers.
As SLATE celebrates 50 years, the agency remains committed to building a skilled, resilient workforce for St. Louis, connecting residents to real career opportunities today and preparing the city for future growth.
