Before you apply, coordinate with nearby neighbors, business associations, and Community Improvement Districts to determine the location of your commercial loading zone.
To apply for a new permit, you must have the following information:
- Your business name and contact information.
- The address of your business.
- Details about your proposed loading zone:
- The exact location of the proposed zone.
- The length of the curb you are requesting for your loading zone (used to calculate fees).
- The number of metered parking spots you will need to replace with your loading zone.

- $2.00 per foot of the curb lane of the loading zone
- $50.00 for the original sign installation
City ordinance 57831 outlines the fees.
Once your application has been received:
- You will receive a confirmation email and an application ID number. You can monitor the status of your application by entering your application number on the Track and Manage a Case, Permit, or License page.
- A Street Department inspector will conduct a survey of traffic conditions in the area.
- The Traffic Control Supervisor will review the needs of your business with respect to the loading and unloading of freight merchandise, materials or property on the public street or alleys.
- If your loading zone permit is approved, the Traffic Commissioner will issue an annual permit for a commercial loading zone.
- Your approval notification will include payment instructions. You can also learn how to make a payment to the Street Department.
- Once your permit is issued and your fee is paid, the Traffic Commissioner will place and maintain appropriate signs to indicate the area and hours of your loading zone.
