MoDOT Updates Schedule for I-64 Double Deck Resurfacing Project

The Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor, Penhall Company, will close all lanes and ramps on eastbound I-64 downtown between Jefferson and the Poplar Street Bridge on the double deck structure, starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.
One eastbound lane, and the 14th Street and 6th Street ramps, will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8.  A second land and the 11th Street ramp will reopen by 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8.

In addition, two eastbound lanes on the Poplar Street Bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, until noon Sunday, Oct. 7.

Finally, the ramp from eastbound I-70 to the Poplar Street Bridge will be closed Saturday, Oct. 6, from 12:01 a.m. until 2 p.m. as crews work overhead on eastbound I-64.

The detour around the closure will be to take Jefferson Avenue to eastbound I-44.  Drivers may also choose to use the MLK, Eads, McKinley, Chain of Rocks or Jefferson Barracks bridges to avoid the additional delays due to lane closures on the Poplar Street Bridge.

Crews also plan to close all lanes and ramps on westbound I-64 between the Poplar Street Bridge and Jefferson next Tuesday through Friday nights at 8 p.m.  All lanes and ramps would reopen the following morning at 5 a.m.

After this weekend, there will be three more weekend closures on eastbound I-64 to complete work to remove and replace the driving surface for the double deck structure before the end of the year.  MoDOT will continue to work with the Cardinals as they go through the post season; for instance, schedule work will be adjusted around any post-season home games.  Eastbound work should not significantly impact home games for the Rams, nor should it impact other scheduled events in and around the downtown areas.  The dates for these weekend closures have not been determined at this time, as the closures will depend on weather and temperature forecasts.

All temporary barrier on the double deck structure is scheduled to be removed by November 1.  After that date, only weekend work is planned for the double deck structure downtown.
