Street Department to Introduce New Bike Lane Sweeper
A new, 5-foot wide street sweeper will be used to clean and maintain protected bike lanes and other areas.
Mayor Cara Spencer and the City of St. Louis Street Department will introduce a new, 5-foot wide street sweeper to be used to clean and maintain protected bike lanes, shared use paths, pedestrian facilities, and other infrastructure that is too small for a typical street sweeper.
Nicknamed “Archie” in honor of the Gateway Arch, the Green Machine 636 includes sweeper and vacuum capabilities to pick up trash, dirt, and debris, which will help to maintain a cleaner and safer path for bicyclists.
Archie’s inaugural sweep will take place on Monday, August 4, 9:00 a.m at the protected bike lanes that run along the 2200 block of Scott Ave. (This block is just East of Jefferson Ave., with available parking at the East end of the block.)
