15TH Annual Spring Jubilee Celebrates Older Americans Month

The St. Louis Area Agency on Aging, a division of the City of St. Louis Department of Human Services, announced last month that the 15th Annual "Spring Jubilee" in celebration of Older Americans Month will take place on Friday, May 11, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the St. Louis Scottish Rite Cathedral, 3633 Lindell Boulevard. This event is free to all St. Louisans who are 60 years old or older.

This year's Spring Jubilee theme is "St. Louis: Lights, Camera, Action!" Local media personality Johnny Rabbitt will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the event, which will include music from local DJ Big Papa G and singer Andrew Straud, line dancing groups, and door prizes.

The entrance is located on the Lindell Boulevard side of the building, and parking is available for $3.00 in the Scottish Rite parking garage located on Olive Boulevard. On-street metered parking is also available.

May was first proclaimed as "Senior Citizens Month" in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy, and was later changed to "Older Americans Month" by President Jimmy Carter. The month of May has been designated to honor our nation's more than 34 million older Americans and the contributions they have made and continue to make to our great nation. Mayor Francis G. Slay has proclaimed May 2012 as "Older Americans Month" in the City of St. Louis to recognize the diversity and vitality of today's older Americans and to celebrate the St. Louis Area Agency on Aging's mission to help older people stay active and healthy in their communities.
