Apply for the Impacted Tenants Fund

The Impacted Tenant Fund project assists eligible city renters who have been forced to relocate from their residence due to building condemnation or to the May 16 tornado.

Overview

The City of St. Louis, in coordination with Employment Connection, is launching The Impacted Tenant Fund project to assist eligible city renters who:

  • have been forced to relocate from their residence due to their rented unit being condemned by the City Building Division since January 1, 2025, OR
  • lived in the City of St. Louis on May 16 and whose rental units were rendered uninhabitable by the May 16 tornado.

Eligible tenants will receive funds for one-time assistance, equal to one month of rent based on current HUD 2025 Fair Market Rate (FMR) for the City of St. Louis for the unit the tenant is leaving.

Preparation

Confirm Eligibility 

To be eligible for the program, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. You live in the City of St. Louis. Check your address to verify that you live in the City.
  2. You are in one of the following situations:
    • You have been forced to relocate from your residence due to your rented unit being condemned by the City Building Division since January 1, 2025
    • Your rental unit was rendered uninhabitable by the May 16 tornado.

Prepare Documentation

You will need to have the following documents:

  1. A lease that was current at the time of the event, for the unit that has been impacted or condemned, signed by you, the tenant.
  2. A valid photo ID, passport, driver’s license or other municipal/state identification.
  3. One of the following documents with your name and the address of the impacted unit:
    • Utility bill from impacted unit and dated prior to the event
    • Official government-issued mail (unemployment letter, social security letter, food/cash assistance award letter, etc.) dated within the last 90 days
    • Voter registration card
    • Current bank statement

Instructions

Applications will be accepted in person at the Employment Connection office. Paper applications are available at the office, or you can download an application, fill it out in advance, and bring it with you to the office.

You may visit the Employment Connections office Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bring your documentation with you.

What to Expect

Applications will be collected and reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Once your application and documents are turned in, Employment Connection will work with the St. Louis City Building Division to confirm information, and Employment Connection will reach out to you to issue payment.
