The City of St. Louis, in partnership with the SLATE Missouri Job Center, is hosting a major hiring event to fill 200 limited-term utility worker positions with the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry. The openings are in the Parks and Forestry divisions.

In addition, the Recreation Division is hiring for several seasonal positions, including lifeguards and recreation assistants.

The hiring fair will take place on Friday, Jan. 23, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the SLATE office, 1520 Market St., 1st Floor Conference Room, in downtown St. Louis.

The event is open to the public and offers screening interviews for individuals seeking outdoor, hands-on work. Positions are available as seasonal roles or career-track opportunities, offering a direct pathway into public service. Many current City employees began in utility worker roles, and others return year after year for reliable seasonal employment. All applicants should bring state issued ID or a driver’s license.

“St. Louis can be a place where everyone has the tools and support they need not only to survive, but to thrive,” said Director of Personnel Brian Light. “These positions are more than just jobs — they are an invitation to help build a stronger, more vibrant city while creating real career opportunities for our residents.”

The City of St. Louis is proud to be a second-chance employer, committed to providing fair and equitable employment opportunities to all qualified candidates, including individuals with past justice system involvement.

“Everyone deserves a second chance, and employment is often the first step toward lasting stability,” said SLATE Executive Director Connie L. Johnson. “SLATE changed my life when I was young, and I am honored to now help provide those same life-changing opportunities to St. Louisans. SLATE and the Department of Personnel stand ready to help people take that next step.”

Participants are encouraged to bring a resume, as this will help speed up the application process. Job seekers who need assistance creating or updating a resume are welcome to attend SLATE’s Resume Building Workshop prior to the hiring event. Workshops are offered weekly on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. To register, please call SLATE’s front desk at 314-589-8000.

Additionally, creating or updating a profile at https://jobs.mo.gov in advance will further reduce registration time on the day of the event.
