Gilberto Pinela
Director, Office of New Americans
A native of Puerto Rico, Gilberto is the first generation of his immediate and extended family who graduated with a master’s degree; he is currently working on an MBA at Webster University. Gilberto is a professional in communications with an extensive background in broadcast, media relations, public relations, and marketing. Gilberto co-owned The Greenery Plant Company from 1994 to 2009 and served as the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce president in the late 90s. He is a fierce advocate of Latine and foreign-born rights.
Gilberto hosted, directed, and co-produced “Ahora San Luis” for STLTV and is honored to be the first non-native Latino to host a Spanish-language community affairs television show in Missouri.
Gilberto’s community involvement includes being a member of the board of The Tower Grove Friends Council, PROMO, and Webster University Alumni Association. He is an FBISTL Citizen’s Academy Alumni Association member, Mayor Jones LGBTQIA+ Advisory Board, a City of St. Louis commissioner on the ZMD Subtax district for the Missouri Historical Society, the Industrial Development Authority, a board member of the St. Louis Development Economic Partnership, and marketing committee member for Forest Park Forever.
Gilberto loves to cook and exercise and owns a home in Tower Grove South, where he lives with his partner.
