Obtain demolition, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, tent and/or housing conservation/HCD (residential occupancy) permits.
Permits
- Apply for a Commercial Construction Permit Information on applying for a building permit for commercial construction such as fences, fire alarms, solar panel installations, sprinkler systems, parking lots, new construction, and more.
- Apply for a Commercial Occupancy Permit Information on applying for a Commercial Occupancy Permit for businesses and multi-family dwellings of 6 or more units.
- Apply for a Demolition Permit Demolition permits are required for wrecking or demolishing work in the City.
- Apply for a Mechanical Permit Mechanical permits are issued to mechanical contractors who are licensed by the City of Saint Louis.

- Apply for a Residential Construction Permit Information on applying for a building permit for residential construction such as fences, solar panel installations, new construction work, decks/porches, garages, carports, and finished basements.
- Apply for a Residential Occupancy Permit (Housing Conservation Inspection) Information on how to apply for a Housing Conservation inspection for Residential Occupancy, which consists of a basic code inspection to check for minimal interior building code violations and minimum exterior standards.
- Apply for an Electrical Permit Information about electrical permits, which are required for contractors and some homeowners to perform electrical work on buildings in the City.
- Request Commercial Property Inspections Report problems with overflowing or missing commercial trash dumpsters, commercial trash collection, ADA accessibility, problem with a liquor establishments, or smoking ban violations.

Building Code Update
Effective January 23, 2020, Ordinance 71063, requires new residential, multifamily and commercial construction be 'solar-ready'. To be in compliance with this ordinance, one- and two- family dwellings, townhouses, multifamily, and commercial construction plans shall illustrate the feasibility of a future solar energy system installation, should a building owner decide to do so.
