Knox Box Information
A Knox Box is a high-security, tamper-resistant safe mounted to a building's exterior. It provides the St. Louis Fire Department with immediate access to master keys and entry codes during emergencies, eliminating the need for forced entry.

Procurement Process
- Ordering: Purchases are made through KnoxBox.com by selecting the “BUY” option.
- Jurisdiction Selection: For city properties, “St. Louis Fire Dept.” must be identified as the responding agency.
- Model Selection: The 3200 Series is standard for commercial use, while the 4400 Series services high-security facilities.
Installation Standards
- Placement: The box must be mounted in a visible area near the primary entrance.
- Height: Installation should be at least 10 feet above the finished grade, measured to the top of the unit.
- Security: Units must be secured to a solid surface.
Registration and Finalization
Once installed, the property owner must coordinate with the Bureau of Fire Prevention to secure the box.
- Key Preparation: Labeled master keys, alarm panel keys, and elevator tools must be ready for placement
- Inspection Scheduling: An appointment for lock-up is required.
