Online Permit & Invoice Payment

Welcome to the City Fire Department’s online payment guide. The City utilizes PayIt St. Louis as our secure third-party payment processor.

Use the link or QR code below to access the external PayIt portal to complete payments for fire permits or invoices issued through the Bureau of Fire Prevention. You may also make a payment in person at our office at 1421 N Jefferson, St. Louis, MO  63106.

NOTE:  Review your invoice or permit application carefully to verify you are paying the correct department. Incorrectly routed payments will lead to significant delays in updating your account with City departments. 

Access the Online Payment Portal

To pay your Fire Department permit or invoice online, navigate to St Louis Fire Department’s PayIt Portal  to open the PayIt payment portal in a new window.

Eligible Online Payments

You can use the external PayIt portal to pay for the following Fire Prevention Bureau items:

• Permit Fees: Special event permits (tents, fireworks, hot work, pyrotechnics) and hazardous materials permits.
• Invoices: Permits, records searches, fire investigation incident reports, and other invoices created by the Fire Marshal’s Office.  You may request an invoice if you have multiple permits by emailing your request to stlfd_fmo+invoice@stlouis-mo.gov.

What to Expect on the PayIt Portal

When you click the payment link to visit PayIt, you will follow these simple steps:

• Select Access Type: Choose "Continue as Guest" for a one-time quick payment, or "Sign In / Sign Up" to create a PayIt account to store payment methods and track past receipts from any City of St. Louis department using PayIt.
• Search Your Item: Select Permit or Invoice from the dropdown menu and enter your information. If you have been assigned a permit number, include it.
• Add to Cart & Pay: Review the balance due, enter your payment details, and submit.
• Get Your Receipt: An instant confirmation receipt will display on screen and be sent to your e-mail address.
   

Important Notices

• Permits Require Final Approval: Paying your fee online covers the administrative cost, but a payment receipt does not constitute an active or issued permit.
• Inspections: If your permit or invoice requires an in-person site inspection, please contact the Fire Prevention Bureau after submitting your payment to schedule your visit.
• Processing & Records: Payments made through PayIt are processed immediately, and official City records update within one business day.
• Convenience Fees: Online transactions processed through third-party portals may include standard payment processing service fees, which are clearly disclosed on screen before you complete payment.
   

Please double-check your invoice or permit details before completing your transaction. If a payment is submitted to the Fire Department in error, we are unable to transfer those funds to another city department on your behalf. Misdirected payments must be refunded, which will delay the processing of your correct account.
