Boys and Girls Club of Greater St. Louis

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis provides trauma-informed afterschool, summer, sports, academic, and wellness programming for underserved youth in North St. Louis City to promote academic success, healthy lifestyles, positive behavior, and violence prevention.

Program Overview

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) provides year-round youth development programming through the Mathews-Dickey Club located in North St. Louis City. After-school programming is offered during the spring and fall academic semesters, and summer camp programming operates for eight weeks during June and July. The program seeks to expand access to supportive programming and organized sports opportunities for underserved and at-risk youth throughout North St. Louis City.

Services include daily academic support and tutoring through Power Hour programming, mentoring from caring adult professionals, organized and recreational sports leagues, health and life skills education, financial literacy programming, workforce development activities, and evidence-informed youth development programs such as SMART Girls and Passport to Manhood. Youth also receive daily meals, structured recreational activities, leadership opportunities, and transportation support for sporting events and educational field trips.

The program incorporates trauma-informed care practices and wraparound behavioral health support through partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations. BGCSTL participates in the ARCHS Neighborhood Healing Network alongside organizations including Better Family Life, Fathers & Families Support Center, Mission: St. Louis, and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis to help connect youth and families with trauma-informed services and additional community resources.

Additional supportive services are available through partnerships with organizations such as Behavioral Health Response, CareSTL Health, and STL Vision to ensure youth have access to crisis support, mental health referrals, dental care, vision screenings, and other wellness services. The program also uses evidence-informed evaluation tools, including the National Youth Outcomes Initiative (NYOI), to assess youth wellbeing, school engagement, healthy lifestyles, social-emotional development, and workforce readiness outcomes.

The program is funded by Prop S for 2026.

The program is operated by Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis.
