ST. LOUIS, October 27, 2017 – The overwhelming success of Workforce Wednesdays, a program implemented by the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE) in September, is expanding to include Thursdays, connecting unemployed St. Louisans seeking jobs with businesses that are in immediate need of new talent. This expansion offers job seekers a double-dose of weekly access to same-day interviews and career assistance services.

Starting on November 9, 2017, Thursdays at SLATE will offer all the features of its popular Workforce Wednesdays, including on-site interviews, resume development assistance, and job application support. Visitors have an opportunity to meet and interview with a variety of companies for entry level, mid-career, and professional positions for in-demand industries such as healthcare, IT, manufacturing, hospitality, and many others.

On Workforce Wednesdays AND Thursdays, featured community partners will offer same-day interview opportunities at the downtown SLATE offices, located on the Third Floor at 1520 Market Street. These valued partners will conduct walk-in interviews from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Most employers have immediate openings and may be hiring workers on-the-spot.

“At SLATE, we keep mission intuned with with heartbeat of our community.” said Dr. Alice M. Prince, Executive Director of SLATE. “Expanding Workforce Wednesdays to include Thursdays each week further strengthens our region, helping to transform our City’s workforce landscape to one of hope and connection.”

While visiting SLATE, job seekers can also learn about the many workshops and education courses available for those seeking a diploma or HiSET credential, and learn more about the many pre-apprenticeships, and apprenticeship programs available in a wide variety of in-demand occupational fields.

Walk into the workforce, even without a resume! While job seekers should prepare for possible interviews by wearing appropriate attire, SLATE Career Specialists are available to assist job seekers with creating resumes that they can share with interviewers.

SLATE invites everyone to find their way to prosperity by taking advantage of the employment opportunities offered at SLATE on Workforce Wednesdays and Thursdays, but is open to provide support for job searches, career planning, and employment opportunities on Monday through Friday, from 7a.m. to 7p.m. Job seekers are encouraged to prepare in advance for interviews on Workforce Wednesdays and Thursdays by visiting SLATE during office hours.

Workforce Wednesdays were introduced by SLATE’s newly-appointed Executive Director, Dr. Alice M. Prince, to help the St. Louis community obtain same-day access to tools for employment and begin the journey to individual prosperity.
