Overview
The May 16, 2025 tornado in many instances disrupted access to food, especially for those with limited mobility or resources and continues to cause food insecurity for many residents who reside in the tornado impacted zones. Ensuring consistent, nutritious meal access is vital for recovery and health, particularly for older adults, children, and other at-risk groups. This funding seeks to enhance community-based food support efforts, including hot meal and boxed meal services in partnership with local long-term recovery resource centers and resiliency centers.
The City of St. Louis, through the fiscal agent United Way of Greater St. Louis, invites eligible organizations to apply for funding to provide food assistance to disaster survivors who are struggling with food stability directly related to the May 16th tornado. This funding aims to support food access services for residents, including direct food assistance to residents who are displaced, food services for community centers where tornado survivors congregate, and snacks and food boxes to people who are displaced.
The total anticipated amount of funds available for these grants is $450,000, with no more than 10% of awards being used for administrative costs.
