Overview
Disasters can create complex legal problems that significantly affect survivors’ housing stability, property rights, and access to recovery resources. Timely legal assistance is crucial for helping survivors navigate these challenges, preventing displacement, and ensuring recovery and resilience.
The City of St. Louis, through its fiscal agent, the United Way of Greater St. Louis, invites eligible organizations to apply for funding to provide legal assistance to City residents who lived in the tornado disaster-impacted zones on May 16, 2025, who are now facing legal issues directly related to the May 16th tornado. This funding aims to support legal services addressing critical challenges such as landlord-tenant disputes, evictions, deed/heirship issues, and other property-related concerns that arise in the aftermath of disasters. Assistance may be in the form of counsel and advice, brief services, negotiations, litigation, and specific outreach and education dealing with scam prevention, etc.
The total anticipated amount of funds available for these grants is $750,000, with no more than 10% of awards being used for administrative costs.
