St. Louis Fire Department Receives Grant to Install Carbon Monoxide Alarms

 Daniel and Henry Company and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company partnered to award a $5,226 grant to the St. Louis Fire Department carbon monoxide (CO) alarm program.  The check presentation was held today at Fire Department Headquarters.

Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless, and toxic gas that can kill a person before they are aware it is in their home.  Carbon monoxide alarms are designed to sound an alarm before an average, healthy adult would experience symptoms.  At lower levels of exposure, CO causes mild effects that are often mistaken for the flu.

CO gas can come from several sources, including:  gas-fueled appliances, charcoal grills, fireplaces, and motor vehicles.

The funding, provided by the grant, allows the St. Louis Fire Department to purchase and install carbon monoxide alarms in the homes of residents of St. Louis.  St. Louis City residents interested in participating in the program may call (314) 533-3406.
