President Reed sponsors LGBTQ+ effort within St. Louis Fire Department

On Friday, June 28, the Board of Aldermen passed Resolution 79 which establishes the role of a LGBTQ+ Liaison for the St. Louis Fire Department.

On Friday, June 28, Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed, along with 25th ward Alderman Shane Cohn, sponsored Resolution 79 which establishes the role of a LGBTQ+ Liaison for the St. Louis Fire Department.

With the support of the St. Louis Fire Department Chief Jenkerson and Firefighters Local 73, Reed introduced and sponsored a resolution that calls upon the St. Louis Fire Department and EMS providers to appoint a current employee as a liaison officer to help facilitate between the LGBTQ+ community and their department. The LGBTQ+ Liaison will also be responsible for promoting equality and inclusion in the workplace and educating first responders on LGBTQ+ related emergency healthcare conditions and respectful practices when caring for these individuals.

“I’m proud to sponsor Resolution 79. This person will work with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the Mayor's Office LGBTQ+ Liaisons to continue to promote equality and inclusion in the workplace and community,” says Reed. “It’s another step in the right direction of making City government even more inclusive.”
