Excellence in Public Service Awards

The inaugural Excellence in Public Service Awards will take place at City Hall on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

The City of St. Louis has officially launched the Excellence in Public Service Awards, a new annual initiative designed to celebrate the dedication and outstanding contributions of the City's more than 3,000 civil service employees. Co-hosted by Mayor Cara Spencer and Personnel Director Brian Light, the inaugural ceremony fills a critical gap in municipal operations by establishing the City's first centralized employee recognition program.

Based on feedback from the Voice of the Workforce survey and recent employee morale initiatives, the program aims to strengthen our culture and highlight staff dedication across all municipal operations.

"Over 3,000 civil servants keep St. Louis running daily," said Brian Light, Director of Personnel. "Establishing a permanent annual tradition like this allows us to highlight the exceptional talent across our departments—from frontline crews to behind-the-scenes staff—who make a difference in our city every single day."
