Updates on the Sinkhole Near 1-44 and North Broadway Ahead of Monday Morning Commute
Significant road closures downtown may impact your commute. Plan for delays and alternate routes.
ST. LOUIS, MO - The City of St. Louis and partners, including the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT), continue to respond to a sinkhole that developed near Interstate I-44 and North Broadway in downtown St. Louis.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has confirmed that it does not believe there are larger geographical concerns in the area, and as City departments and partners begin repairs, they are encouraging the public to be patient while traveling in the area.
Street and Highway Closures:
- On I-70, only the eastbound express lanes are closed. There are no other ramps or lanes closed on I-70 in either direction as it continues over the Mississippi River.
- The movement from I-70 Eastbound that becomes I-44 Westbound is closed, so all traffic wanting to go towards Downtown must get off at Tucker Blvd.
- I-44 Eastbound toward Downtown is closed at the Poplar Street Bridge. All traffic heading to Downtown will want to get off at the Park Ave. exit.
- Broadway Ave., on both sides of the interstate, is closed at Biddle St.
- The ramp from I-64 Westbound toward Walnut St. and I-44 Eastbound is closed. Folks who want to access Downtown can use the 9th St. exit.
- 4th St. is closed north of Washington Ave.
GPS software may provide alternative routes based on closures, but for the most up-to-date traveler information, commuters are encouraged to check MODOT’s Traveler Information Map at traveler.modot.org.
