A new judge will be joining the Circuit Court soon. Three candidates have been selected to replace Judge Donald McCullin who turned 70 in April – the age that triggers mandatory retirement for Missouri's judges.

Judge McCullin was a distinguished veteran of the Court, presiding over countless civil andgavel criminal trials. His first case, which he still recalls vividly, involved a personal injury claim against the maker of children's car seats. It ended in a $10 million verdict that was upheld on appeal.

Judge McCullin's replacement on the circuit bench will be either Associate Circuit Judge Paula Perkins Bryant, Associate Circuit Judge Beth Hogan or attorney Rex Burlison.

All three (as well as 17 other applicants) were interviewed by the judicial commission in June and, for the first time, those interviews were held in public.

As part of the state's effort to improve transparency in the judicial nominating process the names of all applicants who apply for a judicial vacancy are being made public and the commission's interview process will be open to any interested spectators.

It will be up to Governor Jay Nixon to select one of the three candidates to replace Judge McCullin.
