Nature of Work
This is a training position performing skilled work in diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and maintaining all components of both diesel and gasoline engine driven heavy trucks, construction equipment, and complex hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Employees who occupy Fleet Maintenance Technician III (Trainee) positions will serve an eleven month working test period. Upon successful completion of the working test period and being granted permanent status in the classification of Fleet Maintenance Technician III, the employee will receive advancement to the general recruitment rate of the Fleet Maintenance Technician III classification.
Current enrollment in or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program, trade school, or junior college program in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, heavy trucks, and/or construction equipment.
Applicants must have completed the first year of an Associate's degree or equivalent credential in the appropriate curriculum.
Proof of completion of the program will be required upon successful completion of the working test period.
Trainees must furnish their own set of hand tools.
Official proof of qualifying educational achievement must be submitted with the Employment Application. Applications submitted without proof of qualifying educational achievement will be eliminated. License: Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing the Employment Application. Must be able to present license at the time of the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
Commercial Driver's License: Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (Class B) will be required by the completion of the working test period. Some positions may require additional CDL endorsements. Must possess and maintain valid Missouri Commercial Driver's License (Class B) while employed by the City of St. Louis.
To be eligible for veterans preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
The Employment History and Educational/Training History sections of the application must be completed even if you attach a resume. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute for a fully completed application. Applicants are required to provide a complete and detailed description of prior work experience, education and training. When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
CHARACTER INVESTIGATION: These positions require candidates to pass a "Character Investigation" prior to appointment. The Director of Personnel may reject the application, or refuse to test and/or eliminate an applicant from an examination as otherwise permitted by law.
MEDICAL: The pre-employment medical exam will include a drug/alcohol screen and subsequent random drug/alcohol testing in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
