  • Minimum: $49,192.00
  • Maximum: $66,534.00

Incumbents who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $49,192 annually.  Journeyman who have completed an apprenticeship program registered by the Department of Labor or equivalent will start at $53,794 annually.  Proof of completion of a registered Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program and Journeyman status must be submitted at the time of filing the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.

Nature of Work

Incumbents in this position install, repair and maintain electrical system components, fixtures and lines and coordinate work assignments.  Other duties include overseeing electrical safety; troubleshooting and inspecting work for completeness and compliance with specifications; providing training and monitoring and reporting on work progress.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of full-time paid experience as an Electrician; OR one year of full-time paid experience as a journeyman Electrician plus any one of the following:  completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in the electrical trade, completion of a technical or trade school program in electricity, or licensure by the City of St. Louis as an Electrician. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

License:  Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) while employed  by the City of St. Louis. Candidates that have a CDL permit at the time of hire and must obtain a valid CDL (Class A or B) as a condition of successfully completing their working test period.  Please note type of license, number, class, expiration date and State where issued on the Employment Application. 

Proof of educational achievement/training must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the Oral Interview.

A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of relevant experience and training as listed on the Employment Application. Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment.  Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.  Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. 

MEDICAL:  Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the medical examination.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.

Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $141.00 bi-weekly.  A ten year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
