Incumbents who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $36,478 annually. Journeyman who have completed an apprenticeship program registered by the Department of Labor or equivalent will start at $47,684 annually. Proof of completion of a registered Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program and Journeyman status must be submitted at the time of filing the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.
Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for performing journey-level carpentry duties to construct, maintain and alter City buildings and facilities.

An Associate's degree or completion of a two year training program in Carpentry and/or Building Construction Technology or a closely related curriculum from a recognized trade school or junior college; plus two years of experience in the carpentry trade. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Incumbents are required to furnish their own basic carpentry tools.
Proof of educational achievement/training must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the Oral Interview.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license must present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application. Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment on the application. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application.
MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the medical examination.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
