- Minimum: $40,430.00
- Maximum: $57,980.00
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will start at $40,430 annually. Applicants who have completed a Department of Labor apprenticeship program and have achieved journeyman status will be paid at the minimum of $45,552 annually. Applicants who have A.S.E. "Master Automobile Technician" certification through the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence will be paid at the minimum of $44,876 annually. Some positions are per performance and are paid $19.44 per hour. Per performance positions are not covered by the Employee Benefits Program and do not require City residency.
Proof of completion of apprenticeship program, journeymen status and A.S.E. certification must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.
Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for repairing, overhauling and maintaining fleet vehicles and equipment.

Three years of experience in the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of automotive or landscaping equipment such as utility tractors, lawnmowers, and two-cycle engines. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Employees must furnish their own set of hand tools.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must be able to present license at time of the Oral Interview. Some positions may require a Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) or permit by the completion of the working test period (usually six months from date of hire) and maintain license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver’s license will be required to present a “Driving Record Check” from their State’s Department of Motor Vehicles.
Please be as thorough as possible when describing your qualifying automotive repair experience, training and educational achievements on the Employment Application. Include reasons for changes in employers and gaps in employment on the application. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application.
MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the medical examination.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
