Applicants who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $37,570 annually. Applicants who have successfully completed a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and obtained journeyman status will start at $49,114 annually. Proof of completion of apprenticeship program and journeyman status must be submitted with the Employment Application.
Position Specifications
Incumbents in this position operate a wide variety of equipment on construction projects for city streets, parks and utilities.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment such as crawler loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, cable cranes, and related equipment. Completion of a recognized Construction Equipment Operator apprenticeship program may substitute for one year of required experience. OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
License: Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid Missouri CDL (Class A or B) while employed by the City of St. Louis. Candidates that have a CDL permit at the time of hire must obtain a valid CDL (Class A or B) as a condition of successfully completing their working test period. Some positions may require incumbents with a CDL (Class B) to obtain a valid Class A CDL with X (Hazmat and Tanker) endorsement within six months of appointment. Please note type of license, number, class, expiration date, and state where issued on the Employment Application.
When completing the Employment History and the Educational/Training History sections of the Employment Application, please be as thorough as possible when describing your education, training and experience relating to this position. Your employment experience and training will be used to determine whether you meet the entrance requirements for this position and to compute your experience and training evaluation. MEDICAL The pre-employment medical exam will include a drug/alcohol screen and subsequent random drug/alcohol testing in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.
CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
