Applicants who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $39,364 annually.
Applicants who have successfully completed a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and obtained journeyman status will start at $51,480 annually. Proof of completion of apprenticeship program and journeyman status must be submitted upon request of the Department of Personnel.
Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position lead a crew of painters, painter helpers, or assigned personnel, and assist with a variety of painting projects.

Current employment with the City of St. Louis as a painter for at least three years; OR two years experience as a journeyman painter and completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application. Please note type of license, number, class, and expiration date on the Employment Application.
When completing the Employment History and the Educational/Training History section of the Employment Application, please be as thorough as possible when describing your work experience involving the operating of mechanical spray painting equipment, compressors, paint-lining equipment and hand guns. Your employment experience and training will be used to determine whether you meet the entrance requirements for this position and to compute your experience and training evaluation. Applicants will only receive credit for their experience, training and education as shown on the application. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass an oral swab "Drug Screen" as part of their Medical examination.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.
CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $141.00 bi-weekly. A ten year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
