Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for performing diversified duties to evaluate all methods used by the laboratory and propose new or modified analytical procedures as well as troubleshooting analytical methods, processing evidence, performing DNA analysis, and presenting the findings in court. Examples of duties include overseeing the Quality Assurance system in the biology/DNA section of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, documenting an annual review of the DNA Procedure Manual and all related forms, and training new biology/DNA Criminalists.

A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Forensic Science, or a closely related field; plus three years of forensic DNA laboratory experience. Experience must include working with DNA and/or trace evidence analysis, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics and statistics. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Certification: Must successfully obtain CODIS clearance by completion of the working test period.
Documentation of academic credentials must be submitted upon request.
Master’s degree in a closely related field preferred; ABC Diplomate (D-ABC) certification is desirable.

MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass an oral swab "Drug Screen" as part of the Medical examination.

The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.
CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
