Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for providing instruction and information to individuals and groups and counseling individuals regarding Behavioral Health & Chronic Diseases programs and services. Duties include conducting assessments and surveys to determine Behavioral Health & Chronic Diseases education needs; collaborating with health specialists and stakeholders and developing plans and policies toward achieving health education objectives; designing and distributing health education materials and aids; facilitating health education events, workshops, conferences, and presentations; promoting health education initiatives and connecting staff, community agencies, and organizations with access to health education resources; and referring clients to other support services, such as medical evaluation and treatment, social services, and employment services.

A Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Social Work, or a related field; plus two years of experience in Public Health, which should include some experience with human services, public relations, community education, or conducting health investigations; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present license upon request. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's degree in Public Health or a related field; Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
