Nature of Work

The incumbent in this position is responsible for managing the daily operation of the Police Division's Latent Print Unit in the Laboratory Division.  Examples of duties include: overseeing the supervision of Fingerprint Technicians; conducting periodic audits of the Identification Division to ensure compliance with ANAB and CALEA guidelines; ensuring that the statewide AFIS computer system is maintained and operating properly; overseeing and completing expungement, Legal Division, and historical requests for the section, in addition to testifying in both state and federal court.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in a science-related field; plus five years of experience as a Fingerprint Technician or higher.  Qualifying experience must also include at least 1 year of experience in a supervisory capacity OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Certification: Must have AFIS Certification by the Missouri Highway Patrol, REJIS and MULES criminal history files and arrest records certification.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  A Master's Degree OR ANAB Auditor training is highly preferred.

MEDICAL:  Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" and submit to a "DNA buccal swab" as part of the medical examination.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points.  City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
