Applicants who have A.S.E. "Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician" certification through the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence will be paid at a minimum of $60,970 annually. Proof of A.S.E. certification must be submitted with the Employment Application or upon request.
Incumbents in this position are responsible for performing lead worker repairs, overhauls and maintenance for automotive and heavy equipment and vehicles. Other duties include assigning and reviewing work, training new mechanics and maintaining records.

Four years of experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy trucks (over 25,000 lb. GVW) or comparable heavy equipment and/or construction equipment, automobiles, and landscaping equipment. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Employees must furnish their own set of hand tools.
License: Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) while employed by the City of St. Louis. Candidates that have a CDL permit at the time of hire must obtain a valid CDL (Class A or B) as a condition of successfully completing their working test period. VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.
CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $180.00 bi-weekly. A ten-year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions at St. Louis Lambert International Airport
