Kulage House - City Landmark #74

Kulage House-City Landmark #74

(1876; altered to present appearance 1906/07)

The Kulage House is located at 1904 E. College Avenue, at the corner of E. College & Conde St. While several members of the Kulage family resided at this address c. 1882, it underwent a major renovation in 1906-07. Otto J. Boehmer, a St. Louis architect, designed the brown, Roman brick Tudor Revival facades that enveloped the original two-story house. The house boasts stained, leaded glass casement windows;  geometric patterned wood floors; ornate moldings; and a mahogany-encased organ. A brick perimeter wall and a two-story garage were also added. Otto Kulage and his sister, Ida resided at the home until their deaths in 1923 and 1935 respectively. The house then passed to their two servants who owned the house until 1957.
