Naming or Renaming a Public Street

Procedures for street naming or renaming in the City of St. Louis

StreetRenamingPhotoThere are three street naming or renaming processes in the City. The processes cover the following three different circumstances:

  1. naming or renaming of an existing street;
  2. naming of a new street within a resubdivision approved by the City’s Board of Public Service; and
  3. honorary naming of an existing street.

The first two processes are fairly lengthy due to reviews by a number of parties. The third street naming process is much shorter and is used in those cases where the street’s current official street name will be retained, but an honorary street name will also be designated.
