NATURE OF WORK
Incumbents in this position enforce laws, ordinances and regulations related to environmental sanitation and participate in after-hours disaster response teams to control environmental problems.

A Bachelor’s degree which included at least 30 hours of basic science coursework and a math or statistics class; plus two years of experience working in environmental health. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
Certification: Must be able to obtain Registered Environmental Health Specialist / Registered Sanitarian Certification from the National Environmental Health Association within eleven months of hire as a condition of successfully completing working test period. Incumbents must also successfully complete training in Hotel, Motel and Childcare License Inspections, Certified Pool Operator Inspections and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) during working test period.
Documentation of academic credentials must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: A degree in Environmental Health from a program accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council. CEHT certification by NEHA.

Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment on the application. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered. VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
