City residency requirement may be waived for this position.
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will start at $41,652 annually. Applicants who have completed a Department of Labor apprenticeship program and have achieved journeyman status will be paid at the minimum of $46,930 annually. Applicants who have A.S.E. "Master Automobile Technician" certification through the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence will be paid at the minimum of $46,228 annually. Some positions are per performance and are paid $20.03 per hour. Per performance positions are not covered by the Employee Benefits Program and do not require City residency.
Proof of completion of apprenticeship program, journeymen status and A.S.E. certification must be submitted with the Employment Application or upon request.
Position Specifications
Incumbents in this position are responsible for repairing, overhauling and maintaining fleet vehicles and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of automotive or landscaping equipment such as utility tractors, lawnmowers, and two-cycle engines. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Employees must furnish their own set of hand tools.
LICENSE: Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of filing application. Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) while employed by the City of St. Louis. Candidates that have a CDL permit at the time of hire must obtain a valid CDL (Class A or B) as a condition of successfully completing their working test period. Some positions may require incumbents to possess a Class A CDL before completion of their working test period. When completing the Employment History and the Educational/Training History sections of the Employment Application, please be as thorough as possible when describing your education, training and experience relating to this position. Your employment experience and training will be used to determine whether you meet the entrance requirements for this position and to compute your experience and training evaluation. MEDICAL: The pre-employment medical exam will include a drug screen and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing will be conducted in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.
CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
