Applicants with ASE 'Master Automobile Technician" certification through the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence will be paid a minimum annual salary of $37,466. Proof of certification must be submitted with the Employment Application or upon request.
Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position perform preventative maintenance duties and repair of automotive equipment and vehicles. Duties include assisting automotive mechanics and heavy equipment mechanics in complete engine, transmission, differential, brakes, clutch, hydraulic and other overhaul and repairs.

Successful completion of a recognized trade school or junior college program in automotive technology. OR two years of recent full-time paid experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment and vehicles. OR, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must be able to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles. Must furnish own set of tools. Proof of qualifying educational achievement must be submitted upon request.
LICENSE: Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of filing application. Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) while employed by the City of St. Louis. Candidates that have a CDL permit at the time of hire must obtain a valid CDL (Class A or B) as a condition of successfully completing their working test period. Some positions may require incumbents to possess a Class A CDL before completion of their working test period. MEDICAL: The pre-employment medical exam will include a drug screen and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing will be conducted in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.
CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
